This November sees the return of WSP Opus’ Construction Rocks New Zealand, the battle of the bands networking event for the design, construction, infrastructure and property industry, which is now into its fifth year.

Construction Rocks is also hosted by our offices in Australia, Sweden, America and the UK, providing us nine-to-fivers with a well-earned escape...A place to let loose and rock out with our work colleagues, friends and fellow industry partners. All while raising much-needed funds for global charities.

Due to the influx of band submissions this year, Auckland's event will span across two nights - the 7th and 8th of November- at Q Theatre, Auckland CBD.

Work hard, Play harder

The original concept was conceived by WSP (London) Director and Head of Strategic Growth, Bill Price and Director of West One Management Consultancy, Nigel Fraser.

"Construction Rocks is a unique event that is not only tremendous fun but also gets the whole industry engaged for a great cause every year. Internally it has brought people together who wouldn't normally see each other. It brings enthusiasts together and there's a natural "Oh, he's in a band, he must be alright." feeling. This isn't an initiative to win jobs and improve fees, it's about relationships and common interests." - Bill Price

Since it's conception, Construction Rocks has gone on to raise over $300,000.

The organiser of Auckland's event, Senior Sustainability Consultant, Graham Gilleberg said: "Too often we are dragged from the office to attend corporate breakfasts, lunches and seminars to network with our clients and colleagues. Construction Rocks is a fun, relaxed environment for people to get together, collaborate and thoriygly enjoy themselves over a common love of music and live events. It makes for strong, lasting relationships at work when you find you have similar in-and-out of work interests to share...and who isn't a wannabe rock star eh?"

Auckland's Event

Twelve bands will take to Q Theatre's stage to battle it out over two nights in November. Musicians represent some of the largest names in the industry including WSP Opus, Auckland Transport, Naylor Love, Beca, Tonkin & Taylor and Naylor Love Construction.

Two of the four judges confirmed are General Manager at McConnell Property, Nigel Richards and WSP Work Group Manager of Specialist Services, Kezia Lloyd.

The winning band will go through a three-stage judging process. On the night of the battle, bands will be scored by the judging panel and sound engineer's vote - plus the audience's reaction to the performance. The two winning bands from the adjacent gigs will feature on our website, where friends, family and fans can vote online. You can find out more about the judging process on the official Construction Rocks NZ website.

Donating and Sponsorship

All proceeds from our event will be donated to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Trust.

Providing vital safety for New Zealand for over 35 years, last year Westpac Rescue helicopters performed over 7,290 missions and are now operating through 16 local rescue services.

The people at Westpac Rescue Helicopter Trust courageously put their lives at risk for the safety of others. In many instances, they have been the difference between life and death, transporting the critically ill and injured to hospitals around New Zealand.

Westpac set a goal to raise $1million every year for rescue helicopters around New Zealand. Last year alone they raised $1.25 million – all was distributed back to the 16 rescue choppers in service, aiding towards the 7,290 critical missions.
