Taking stock of roadside data

The City of Nedlands engaged Opus to collect inventory and condition data for road roadside assets across their entire network.

We also produced forward works programmes and maintenance and replacement plans. Assets included all gazetted roads, on- and off-street parking bays, footpaths, line markings, retaining walls and street furniture.

All of the asset data was required to be in GIS format. Some of this data was provided by the City, some digitised directly off aerial photography and others were collected on-site using a differential GPS connected to a handheld PDA.

Inventory and condition data was collected on a handheld PDA using mobile GIS software (ArcPad 8.0). Customised data collection forms were developed for each asset class for use with the GIS software to ensure consistency and accuracy. The final datasets were then loaded into the City’s Roman II database.
